Call for proposals and registrations Water Pasts and Futures Symposium
On 30 September 20205, the organisers behind the VU Amsterdam projects Coping with Drought and PerfectSTORM, in collaboration with the Amsterdam Sustainability Institute and the Drought in the Anthropocene network.
This half-day symposium explores both historical and future droughts, the risks of cascading drought-to-flood events, and the social, political, and technological responses shaping (drinking) water security today. It includes themes such as: Environmental justice and water access inequalities, Drought coping measures—individual to institutional, and Different waters for different purposes. Participants may expect a mix of science and policy, along with a special visit to the ‘Water Views’ exhibition at the VU Art-Science Gallery.
The symposium will be opened by introductions from research project leaders Petra van Dam and Anne van Loon, and host a range of voices bridging academic disciplines and practical perspectives. You can download the full programme as pdf below.
The organisers welcome presentations by researchers and practitioners, via a visual presentation and a 3-minute max. talk on the theme ‘Different Waters for Different Purposes’ to kick-start discussions around historical and contemporary challenges to (drinking) water security. Also participants who want to join as non-presenting participants are requested to register via this form.
