Annual ESDH Meeting including book launch (University of Groningen, 27 May 2026)
On 27 May 2026, the 2026 Annual Economic, Social, Demographic, and Health (ESDH) Histories meeting will be organised in cooperation with the Intersecting Inequalities Research Group of the Research Centre for Historical Studies (CHS) of the University of Groningen.
The 2026 meeting will take place in the Marie Lokke room of the Harmony Complex and will include a public lecture as well as a book launch
Lecture
Dr Tim Riswick, Assistant professor of Economical, Social and Demographic History at Radboud University, will deliver the lecture Comparing Inequalities in Death: What Individual-Level Historical Cause-of-Death Data Reveal.
Book Launch
At this meeting, the new book Low Fertilities in the Past and Present: Studies in Compositional Demography, edited by Dr Yuliya Hilevych (Associate Professor of Economic and Social History at the University of Groningen and Posthumus fellow) and Dr Philip Kreager (Senior Research Fellow in Human Sciences at Somerville College, University of Oxford) will be launched. The book has recently been published in the Proceedings of the British Academy series as open-access piblication., available as open-access P. eds., in Proceedings of the British Academy 2026. The presentation will include presentations by both editors as well as by Professor and Posthumus board member Professor Hilde Bras, who contributed a chapter to this book.
